Our children ~ the most precious asset . . .

Our Most Recent Glyconutrient Educational Opportunity. . .

We should have at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in our diet everyday. Good Luck. Over 90% of the population doesn't. For now though, literally thousands of protective molecules called phytochemicals, from 12 different fruits and vegetables can be given to your child everyday with glyconutrient/antioxidant/phytonutrient supplements that taste incredibly yummy and will tremendously support your child's ability to stay healthy.
-Healthy Kids-Is Mission Possible!

Raising Healthy Kids may be a challenge but is Is Mission Possible! Modern medicine is wonderful but certainly not the total answer. Three billion prescriptions will be given out in the US this year. Yet the incidence of diseases and infections is not decreasing. The best approach is to judiciously use our modern medicine when appropriate but to also appreciate the body's incredible ability to heal, repair, regenerate, regulate and protect itself when given the necessary raw material tools it is already pre-programmed to use.

New knowledge in Biochemistry has given us insights into how the body Maintains health, prevents disease, fights disease and slows down the aging process. Fortunately for us, that new knowledge has evolved into the development of a few very broad spectrum supplements that provide the body with newly discovered raw material tools which very efficiently and effectively address most of the "health realities we discussed earlier.

The new knowledge has to do with a whole new nutritional category called GLYCONUTRIENTS that literally didn't even exist four years ago. Glyco refers to carbohydrate. In 1996 Harper's Biochemistry textbook identified a group of 8 special carbohydrate molecules that were used by the body to control a vast array of biological functions that keep us healthy. This was a significant departure from the previously held idea that carbohydrates were merely a fuel supply for the body. It turns out that virtually all 100+ trillion cells in the body require this specific group of carbohydrate molecules for normal cell structure, function and cell-to-cell communication. Lack of, or altered function of this critical group of carbohydrate molecules has been associated with a wide variety of h health challenges. It also wasn't until 1996 that further research discovered that 6 of those 8 necessary Super Carbs were missing from our diets.

New Knowledge-Now What?

We have two options to use new knowledge about how the body works.

  • Try to create new drugs to fix or cure the body.
  • Cooperate with the body by Giving it what it needs-to do what it is pre-programmed to do.

Currently, over 15 different pharmaceutical companies are spending billions of dollars trying to develop synthetic carbohydrate drugs.  They are investing those billions because the individual naturally occurring carbohydrates have proven to be of great benefit in multiple conditions in hundreds of research studies. New carbohydrate drug development runs the gamut from cancer, to infections, to epilepsy, to AIDS. Interestingly, while some of the research studies date back more than 20 years, it was more academic knowledge with no practical clinical application. Until research scientists in 1994 developed a plant based supplemental formula of those special Super Carbs that were missing from our diet, there was literally NO source available to put t hem back into our bodies.

Lets look at just some of the ways that can happen. It is important to remember that when we use nutrition, the goal is not to cure, treat or mitigate disease! We are simply supplying necessary nutrients that the body is already pre-programmed to use to build, heal, repair, regenerate, regulate and protect itself with.

Before we are even Born....

Biochemical research has shown that even before we are conceived, the special Super Carbs are a crucial part of the process. Fertilization, development of the fetus, and ongoing development and protection after birth of the baby, by Super Carbs in the mother's breast milk, are key factors in the health of the baby.

Infections and Anti-Infective Agents

In order for a virus or bacteria to cause an infection in our body, they have to attach to a carbohydrate cell surface receptor-a structure kind of like an antenna.  Research published in Lancet in 1996 proved that over 3 dozen disease causing bacteria (including E.coli and pneumococcal bacteria), viruses (including flu and AIDS), Candida, and some parasites could be blocked from attaching to cells by different Super Carb molecules and thus prevent infections from occurring in the first place. Those same special carbohydrate molecules could also displace bacteria that had already attached to the cell. Preventing an infection is much better than the best antibiotic after the fact.  With our children exposed to so many germs and viruses in day care centers and schools, prevention is important. Our multi-nutrient helps supply the body with the necessary (but missing from our diet) carbohydrates it utilizes to help prevent bacterial and viral attachment to tissues.

Enhanced Immune System Function

Our immune system protects us by recognizing, targeting and destroying the "enemy". That enemy could be a cancer cell, an infection, a toxin or even an auto-reactive immune cell that mistakenly attacks our own body (autoimmune disease). The ability to recognize the enemy and then to communicate and coordinate the defense attack to destroy it Can Not be accomplished without the special Super Carb molecules. Supplying the body with a source  of the  necessary but missing carbohydrates supports the body's ability to protect us. With research finding the some viruses are contributing to "adult onset" diabetes and heart disease in kids, was well as adults, it is even more important have a properly functioning immune system that can recognize, target and destroy those viruses.

Medical Breakthrough or Breakdown?

Looking at the incredible array of high tech toys available to kids today make many of us think that going through our "second childhood" could be a lot more fun. While that would probably be true, it is also true that it could be a much greater and more dangerous challenge to our health!  In spite of many breakthroughs in medical technology and spending over one trillion dollars a year on health care, our kids are confronted with some very alarming statistics. While I would certainly rather live in the United States than say, Bangladesh, there are some realities we need to look at if we want our children to have a chance to grow up healthy and stay healthy.

Even though th US spends more on health care than any other country in the world, lets' review some of those realities:

  • 21 countries have infant mortality rates lower than the United States.
  • By the 1960's there were over 26,000 antibiotics. We thought infections would be eliminated. Instead, today many bacteria are multidrug resistant. One example-pneumococcal infections kill 40,000 yearly, cause 7-10 million middle ear infections in children, 500,000 cases of pneumonia, thousands of cases of meningitis and blood stream infections. This is a bug that all clinicians encounter every day in their practice. Twenty five percent of those cases are antibiotic resistant and in some communities over forty percent are resistant.
  • There is a literal epidemic of what was once thought to be "adult onset" diseases now showing up in children seven to ten year old. Multiple factors including various viruses and high sugar consumption are being blamed.
  • Childhood obesity now threatens one in three kids with long-term health problems.
  • Soaring childhood learning problems are blamed on everything from a vast array of environmental chemicals to an apparent Ritalin "deficiency" (1998 production Ritalin had increased seven fold from 1990. 90% of it was used in the US)
  • Up to 7 million kids as young as age 2 are taking Ritalin or other psychotropic drugs. About 3.4 m million Americans under 18 are said to be "seriously" depressed. Up to 800,000 anti-depressant prescriptions were written in 1997 for children, some only 5 years old. The FDA has approved anti-depressants for only adult use.  Not to worry though.  Eli Lilly is conducting clinical studies in the under 18 age group and may have just the product for this booming new market: liquid Prozac flavored as a tasty peppermint!
  • Autism has increased from 1 in 10,000 in 1978 to an epidemic today of 1 in 300-500.
  • Autoimmune diseases in kids, like Crohn's, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis are increasing.
  • Cancer rates in children are increasing and today-one out of three adults will develop cancer.
  • Childhood stress can lead to depressed immune function, heart problems and impaired cognitive ability resulting in illness now as well as later adult health problems.
  • What did coleslaw in Indiana, cheese in Wisconsin, toys in Washington, cider from a roadside stand in Oklahoma, a water park in Georgia, and natural spring water in Wyoming have in common? A lot of sick kids (and adults) and multiple cases of kidney failure and deaths from a killer bacteria called E.Coli 0157:H7. 20,000 people suffer from this infection each year. At least 250-mostly children and elderly will die from it-and no medical treatment other than supportive care is available.

AND...the list goes on and on! Make the choice today to protect your children and their health future. There is no other subgroup of our society at more risk, and we, as adults have to make the right pro-active choices for them.
